Industrial Railways and Locomotives of Teesside

This Handbook is in our “Second Edition” format, with extensive background information on the sites covered, as well as listing the locomotives known to have been used there. It covers the modern county of Teesside, including Hartlepool, Stockton and Middlesbrough, until quite recently a major steelmaking area, not to mention docks and chemical plants, with a high concentration of industrial railways. Over 1500 locomotives are listed at some 350 sites, ranging from the huge Dorman Long steelworks group, requiring over 100 locos, to small scrapyards with just one. It is sixty years since most of these sites were last included in a Regional Handbook and much has changed since then!  The book is divided into sections covering Locomotive Worked Sites, Contractors’ Locomotives, Dealers, Repairers, Hirers and Builders, Preserved Locomotives and Non-Locomotive Worked Sites. There are 152 photographs (many in full colour), plus ten location and 18 other maps
