An illustrated history of the Port of Hull and its railways by Mike G Fell
Irwell Press 2018
This is a companion to the author’s previous two works, which dealt with King’s Lynn and Goole. He was in charge of the Port of Hull for sixteen years from 1987 until 2003 and previously was a stevedoring operations manager at the port for three years from 1977 to 1979. The book describes the history of the port and its railways from the opening of Queen’s Dock in 1778 until the present day. Hull was well-known for its fishing industry but that only formed a small part of the port’s activities. It catered for a wide variety of cargoes and the export of coal from South Yorkshire, much of which arrived by train.
