Industrial Railway Society Publications

The Society have now set up an "eShop" which allows you to purchase our publications online.
In future all details of our publications will appear in this shop, even if you order by traditional means.

The IRS publishes a wide range of books about industrial railways, both in the United Kingdom and overseas. The Regional Handbooks were the first books that the Society produced, in it's very early days, and these have now grown greatly from the slim little booklets of those early years. In the 1960's we brought out the first EL Handbook, to provide a more up-to-date guide for the enthusiast looking for the existing industrial and preservation railways of the UK, and this is now in its 17th edition. Over the years we have also published a number of other books about specialised subjects, such as a particular industrial system, or locomotive builder.

The IRS does not just limit its interest to the industrial railways of the UK and Foreign books started in 1956 with the first of a series on the industrials of France, which is now in its second generation. Since then the coverage has spread to other countries around the world such as Germany, China and Cuba, with more to follow. And finally there is the Society's magazine, the Industrial Railway Record, with its range of articles on all sorts of industrial railway subjects.

Note: Many former Society publications (books & the 'Record') are now out of print, but we do have some good second-hand copies available of some of these. If you are interested please make enquiries by email to Robert Turner to find out what is available.

The Society's sales stand will be appearing at the following events in 2020.
