BELLEROPHON

Haydock in Lancashire was the birthplace of six well tanks; undoubtedly the most well known is BELLEROPHON (built at Haydock Foundry in 1874). These post war views were taken on the extensive colliery system at Haydock and make an interesting contrast. C.A. Appleton was fortunate in May 1957 to catch her in ex-works condition, fitted with a new bunker and newly painted green with red lining. Several detail alterations are apparent when compared with the lower photograph which was taken by the late George Alliez in 1948.
